The Sun in 2017
[Gallery]
Tony Barker took the following images of the unusual 'Red Sun' seen over the UK on the 16th October 2017. This was caused by a combination of windblown dust from the Sahara and smoke from forest fires in Portugal. The images were taken at 12:09 and 14:05 local time respectively from Mickleover, Derby. Tony used a Fuji XT2 camera with XC50-230mm lens at 90mm on the first image and 230mm on the second. Each image is a combination of two different exposures using LR/Enfuse. This image of the 'red sun' on the 16th October 2017 was taken by Claire Spencer from Darley Abbey, Derby. Claire notes that this date is around what is known as St Luke's Little Summer, which is a time around the feast of St Luke traditionally celebrated on Oct 18th, when the weather can be mild and fine, which proved to be the case in 2017.
