Duffield Carnival
Saturday 28th June 2025

The 2025 Duffield Carnival had a theme of space and the DDAS was invited to have a stand at the event on Eyes Meadow. A number of telescopes were set up to provide safely filtered or projected solar observing, including Dave Selfe's Seestar S50, the Society's 'JK-40' 8-inch Newtonian operated by Mike Dumelow (which utilises an 8-inch mirror donated by DDAS founder Jane Kirk at our 40th Anniversary in 2014), and one or two refractors. DDAS member Tony Razzell set up his Sudden Ionospheric Disturbance (SID) detector to pick up solar flare events using VLF radio signals. The Society's Moon Globe was as ever a crowd puller, with its signatures from some of the Apollo astronauts. The event also helped our member recruitment and outreach contact. Thanks to Duffield Carnival and all those DDAS members who helped out, for making it such an enjoyable and successful day. Pictures and video by Mike Lancaster.
